Tenant Leaseholder Committee

This is a brief note to let you know about the Tenants and Leaseholders Committee  (T&LC), what we try to achieve and how often we meet.

The T&LC was set up look at and help to influence and improve service delivery.

The group looks at council strategy, resource allocation, policies and procedures.

To date the group have worked on such things as: -

The Tenants Compact, Compact review, Housing Capital Programme, Monitoring Maintenance Contracts, Choice Based Letting Scheme, Options Appraisal, Selecting an Independent Tenants Advisor and various ad hoc topics.

Representatives of the group are also actively involved with the Devon County Tenants Forum and were on the interview panel that appointed Steve Warren – the Head of Housing and Social Inclusion and his (permanent) predecessor Rod Lock. Tenants and leaseholders who sat on the interview panel were given training in interview techniques to ensure they could fulfil the role confidently and effectively.

In order that participants can get the most out of their involvement we arrange any training that they require and provide transport, child care and compensate for loss of earnings when necessary in order that they can attend meetings and training.

We usually meet every three months or so.The level of involvement you choose is entirely up to you. You could even opt to only receive information by post, in which case you will be sent the minutes of meetings and any information on items discussed at the meetings. Alternatively you could come along, join in, and really help to actively influence the services you receive from the council.

I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
