Tenant and Leaseholder Conference 2009

March 16th 2009

2009 Exeter City Council Tenants and Leaseholders Conference

On Saturday 19 September 2009 Exeter City Council will be holding its annual Tenant and Leaseholder Conference and we have invited Professor Carl Chinn (MBE, FRSA, Ph.D.) to be a guest speaker at the event.

The event will once again be held at the Belmont Chapel following the excellent feedback we received last year.

As an experiment, (also in response to last year’s feedback), the event will be held for the first time on a Saturday.

The day will run between 10.00am and 3.45pm and will include refreshments, a lunch time buffet and a free raffle at the end of the day.

The morning session will include a presentation from Professor Carl Chinn (MBE, FRSA, Ph.D.) about the history of social housing. Professor Chinn is a Director of the Birmingham Lives project at the University of Birmingham. He is also a broadcaster, newspaper columnist, public speaker, writer and campaigner for the rights of working class people.  His presentations are humorous, absorbing and extremely interesting.

A decision by The Boundary Committee on the future of local government in Devon is due to be announced in summer.  This decision will have a major impact on social housing in Exeter and possibly East and Mid Devon.

The overall theme of the day will be to look at what the implications of the Boundary Committee decision will be for our tenants. Professor Chinn will give a presentation on the history of social housing in the morning and then in the afternoon we will look at what the future holds.  There will be a variety of workshops to attend in the morning which are repeated in the afternoon.

Once again, there will be stands from our partners and we will be giving away lots of freebies!
